Meet Mark
Okay, let’s get this one out of the way…
In 1990, I proposed to my wife over the phone! (I promise my wedding ceremony scripts are MUCH more romantic than that…)
On a Personal Level
There’s nothing more beautiful than a great love story. I should know: I’ve been lucky enough to live one for 33 years with my wife, Mary. I am madly, passionately, completely in love with her, and I wake up every morning grateful that she’s my partner for life.
Ironically, before we were even introduced, the first words I ever heard Mary utter were, “Men are jerks. I’m never getting married.” Apparently, I took that as a challenge. And the rest is history.
Mary and I live in Rochester Hills, and we are the doting parents of a hairy, four-legged mutt named Bailey.
Since retiring from teaching in 2019, I have spent time traveling, reading, tutoring, and watching a plethora of football games, especially when it comes to my beloved Michigan Wolverines and Detroit Lions.
If you reach my voicemail, I’m probably having lunch with one of my nearly 4,000 former students who continue to be a blessing in my life.
Peek Into My World
- At the age of 58, I discovered I have 7 brothers and sisters I never knew about!
- I threw out the first pitch at a Detroit Tigers baseball game.
- I sang in the Sydney Opera House.
- I walk approx. 1,200 miles a year on hiking trails, bike paths, and city streets.
So, How Did I End Up Officiating Weddings?
I’ve always loved telling stories that move people.
Back when I was a teacher, my 8th graders would often ask, “Are you going to make us cry again today, Mr. Honeyman?”
Most days, the answer was “Yes.” (If I can bring tears to the eyes of moody, distracted adolescents, just think what I could do for your wedding ceremony!)
I developed incredibly close connections with the children I taught during my 35 year career. I even composed and performed songs in the wedding ceremonies of 10 former students. Imagine having your 8th grade English teacher serenading you and your partner as you are about to get married!
Here’s where wedding officiating comes in…
The first ceremony I ever officiated was for a former student of mine! Talk about a full-circle moment. It was a profoundly moving experience that inspired me to want to officiate weddings for as many couples as possible.
My Personal Wedding Officiant Philosophy
Officiating wedding ceremonies is something that I take very seriously. I make a complete emotional investment from the moment a couple agrees to work with me, and I stay locked in on that solemn responsibility from the first meeting to the mailing of the signed marriage license.
My ultimate goal is to create poignant, customized ceremonies that elicit a profound emotional response from the couple, their wedding party, and all their guests.
No pre-written scripts lifted from the internet, no restrictive elements based on someone’s else’s requirements. Just one-of-a-kind ceremonies that capture the magic of each couple’s unique relationship.
